Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), a type of cognitive behavioral therapy, equips individuals to identify and replace harmful beliefs and negative thought cycles that can result in emotional and behavioral distress. REBT is an action-driven approach and serves as a guide for effectively managing your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in a positive manner. Moving through the process can significantly enhance an individual’s emotional resilience. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) focuses on helping individuals accept their thoughts and feelings rather than trying to control or avoid them. It encourages mindfulness and living in alignment with personal values, fostering psychological flexibility. Through this process, clients learn to take meaningful actions toward their goals, even in the presence of difficult emotions. Guided by a highly person-centered philosophy, these approaches to therapy are beneficial for addressing a variety of concerns, such as:

About Me:
I'm a husband of 33 years, a parent of three amazing adult kids, and grandpa to one (so far!) grandchild. I have enjoyed the privilege of working as an educator for over 25 years on four continents. I enjoy playing guitar and songwriting, remodeling my home, woodworking, and spending time with my family over good food and conversation. I also love riding my bike, running, kayaking, and enjoying the outdoors whenever possible.
Treatment Orientation & Philosophy:
In my therapy practice, I focus on you as an individual. I believe that our beliefs shape our feelings, thoughts, and actions. Building a strong therapeutic relationship based on authenticity, empathy, and a nonjudgmental attitude is essential. This supportive environment allows us to explore your beliefs, understand how they affect your life, and work together to change any that may be causing you distress.
My own experience of counseling has allowed me to sort out the confusing emotions that accumulated during childhood in a home where conflict, volatility, and criticism were daily challenges. As I started life on my own, my mind was crowded with mixed messages about my self-worth, the dependability of relationships, the reliability of plans, and hope for the future. In a trusting counseling relationship, I began to see a path out of the confusion and darkness that kept me from fully accepting and living life, engaging in loving relationships, and pursuing a fulfilling career. My approach to therapy mirrors my own experiences and involves looking at harmful beliefs that can limit our wellbeing and developing new philosophies aimed at acceptance and growth of a healthy view of self, others, and life.
