About Me:
I was born in Colorado and moved to Seattle in my early 20's. In 1996 my husband, two young daughters, and I moved to Eugene. As a child, I was an avid reader which led me into a writing/teaching career which ultimately drew me into the mental health field. In 2006, I received my MA in Professional Counseling, since then have worked in the community and private sectors. I was fortunate to do my internship at the local Veteran's Administration. It was an invaluable experience that significantly and continually informs my work with clients. When I'm not working, I spend time with my chocolate lab, Lulu, and my husband, Billy. Our young adult daughters live in Portland and LA. I love yoga, cycling, and travel. And I continue to love to read.
Treatment Orientation & Philosophy:
I believe we are born with an innate wisdom and, as human beings, we are so very smart. We learn to cope to stay alive, to maintain equilibrium. We typically do what works for us at the time. Problems start happening when our coping skills are no longer working, and life starts happening to us. Conflict, both in ourselves and with others, occurs when we react rather than respond to our discomfort.
I feel we are all capable of personal growth, enhanced awareness and deepened insight. Change is uncomfortable and can be deeply unsettling. Transition and transformation may feel like we are lost in the wilderness without sign posts. That's where the therapist steps in. As a therapist, I am there to remind you who you are, and the goodness that informs you on your journey. I am there to remind you that you are right where you should be, that you have created these amazing coping skills that at one time worked for you, and that don't work any longer. I am there to support you as you settle yourself, settle your body, and lean into the wilderness. I believe that it is through the therapeutic relationship that healing can occur.
I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Interpersonal Processing Therapy and Person Centered Therapy. My focus is on building trust, and relationship. It is important you feel you can be yourself, while working with me.
